Mytech Culture Experience August 2013

This month we would like to reflect on our June value of "Create fun and a little weirdness" by highlighting one of our Mytech team members who exemplifies this value every day – Paul Molina. Paul Molina is new to Mytech as he was part of the Synergy Services team that joined Mytech back in April of this year. In the past few months I have had the pleasure of getting to know Paul and his calm, mild mannered and professional demeanour that seems to be at the core of who he is. Now in the past this value has been synonymously identified with those who seem to have a party at their desk or because they are the "monkey" in the office that wants everyone to have fun; however, Paul emulates this value in a different way that we should also recognize.

Here are several examples of how I believe that Paul emulates Mytech's value of Create fun and a little weirdness. We often have internal emails celebrating success and to recognize staff that have received customer compliments (which is part of how we Foster a culture of praise); Paul has been known to respond to those emails with a picture of the heckling theater Muppets (you know the two older Muppets with the box seats) and writes a humorous caption congratulating a fellow staff member. If you happen to have the chance to stop by our office and walk by Paul's desk, you will find that Paul surrounds himself with reminders of how he creates fun with mementos of what he enjoys doing in his spare time – hiking maps, tickets to events he has attended, a Minnesota map of historical sites and museums etc. Finally, and this is my favorite, Paul on the occasional "Dog Friday" brings in his Newfoundland dog Nessie – this gentle giant is quite the attraction for everyone in the office.

"People rarely succeed unless they have fun in what they are doing."
- Dale Carnegie

This value is really about how we all have our unique way of having fun and we are all a little weird in our own way – embrace it! Paul is able to deliver exceptional service to our customers and be a great member of our team because he creates fun and a little weirdness in his own way. Thank you Paul for being you.

"When you have confidence, you can have a lot of fun. And when you have fun, you can do amazing things."
- Joe Namath

Over the years at Mytech we have had the privilege of having fantastic staff and the value of Create fun and a little weirdness is really about our team. We believe that if we have happy staff we will be able to bring humanity and better personal human relationships into a technology services organization. Everything we do is not possible without people and this value is a constant reminder that we believe we can be happier, more productive and lead more fulfilling lives if we have fun and embrace the weirdness we all have inside. The value helps reinforce why we have "Partners" in our name, as we want a deeper relationship than just client/vendor or employee/employer. We want to establish partnerships where strong relationships are built and where we collaborate toward a mutual goal – and why not have fun in the process?

"Some are born weird, some achieve it, others have weirdness thrust upon them."
- Dick Francis

Another connection I would like to draw between the value of Create fun and a little weirdness and the technology services Mytech provides is that technology exists for the benefit of people – not the other way around. In our business we choose to leverage technology because we are able to complete tasks in less time and potentially even automate tasks. We seek to help our customers make effective investments in technology to improve how they operate so their people can be more efficient, so their people can serve other people better. Especially in our service oriented business (which we are all in a service business in one way or another), we believe that technology should enable people to have more human interaction. We want our team to be able to spend less time with technology and more time with our customers, more time to invest in training, more time to collaborate with our vendors etc. We want to make sure that the human element is recognized in an increasingly technical world and we encourage people to embrace fun and their individual weirdness.

"Where's your will to be weird?"
- Jim Morrison

Thank you for taking the time to read about a fantastic Mytech team member – Paul Molina and for participating in part of the Mytech Culture Experience. I invite you to please join the team here at Mytech on our Culture Experience, so that together we can work to "Create fun and a little weirdness."
