This month we would like to reflect on our June value of "Set the next person up for success" by highlighting one of our Mytech team members who exemplifies this value every day – Micah Linehan. At some point last year Mytech was seeking to find another great remote service engineer. One of our existing Mytechians referred Micah to us as a possible candidate. Thinking back on that time, I am very thankful that our team and culture here at Mytech were and are such that our existing staff is interested in referring friends or colleagues to work with us. Thank you Mytech team for setting our organization up for success. The other thought that crosses my mind is how we have been very fortunate to have someone like Micah on our team! Micah just happened to be a Microsoft Office 365 guru with the experience of migrating 1000's of mailboxes and knowing nearly everything there is to know about setting our customers up for success with Office 365. In addition to being an extremely knowledgeable engineer, Micah is an all around nice guy who will take the time to work with you and explain details until you feel comfortable with whatever information you are discussing. Micah engages with our sales team, he engages with our field services team and he works with his fellow remote service engineers to share his experience and friendliness which goes a long way toward setting the next person up for success at Mytech.
"I've come to believe that each of us has a personal calling that's as unique as a fingerprint - and that the best way to succeed is to discover what you love and then find a way to offer it to others in the form of service, working hard, and also allowing the energy of the universe to lead you."
- Oprah Winfrey
I doubt that Oprah is Micah's hero; however her words seem to strike a chord with me regarding the impact that Micah has on our organization. One of the best aspects of Micah is that he is able to have a positive impact while also living one of our other values which is 'Practice both confidence and humility.' Micah is not boastful or arrogant with his knowledge and skillfulness; he shares through hard work and leading by example for the rest of the team. On behalf of Mytech, thank you Micah for being you and for setting the next person up for success.
"I'm a success today because I had a friend who believed in me and I didn't have the heart to let him down."
- Abraham Lincoln
This value has always been important to me even before Mytech officially defined set the next person up for success as one of our twelve core values. This value embodies what I believe President Lincoln said many years ago – I do not want to let the people who believe in me down. No one on our team should let anyone down. Not just because that means we are doing our job; because we should be fostering a culture where your interaction at work is more than mouse clicks and keystrokes – we should all believe in each other. Because of that belief and the corresponding relationships that are built, we do not want to let our friends down. The reality is that to set the next person up for success is not that difficult. If you choose to care enough about the next department that will receive your project or the next person that has to take action based on an email you send, all it takes is a simple choice and a couple extra moments of time to invest in the success of someone else. Choose to provide that extra detail, complete the additional due diligence, invest time in helping someone understand and be willing to lift someone up when they are feeling down. This value is not about being an individual success, it is about positively influencing others to increase mutual success of all those around us.
"Walk with the dreamers, the believers, the courageous, the cheerful, the planners, the doers, the successful people with their heads in the clouds and their feet on the ground. Let their spirit ignite a fire within you to leave this world better than when you found it..."
- Wilferd Peterson
Mytech's Mission is: 'To Create Success by a Visionary approach to IT.' The mission of our company is tied to setting the next person up for success. In order to live and fulfil our mission we have to create success for our staff, our customers, our vendor partners and our community. We seek to improve the lives of others by enabling the effective use of technology which contributes to more jobs, supporting more families, supporting more community organizations, helping more people and eventually we can help create success across the entire small business community in North America! All of the possibilities start with believing that you can have an impact on one person, one peer, one customer or one community partner etc. This value reinforces the need to work together to fulfil our goals. As an individual you can have positive impact; however as a team you can leave a greater wake of positive influence behind you. Everyone can make a difference, no matter how small to set the next person up for success which paid forward can endure indefinitely. Mytech believes that by building and fostering a culture where people believe in each other and where they seek to set the next person up for success, we will continually make strides towards fulfilling our Mission.
"Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude."
- Thomas Jefferson
